GOVERNMENT
The Toruń District (Powiat Toruński) was created on the 1st of January 1999 as a result of the second post-war administrative reform.
It consists of the town of Chełmża and 8 landed administrative units called communes (gmina). They are all self-governing and independent from the District’s Government.

The District is governed by the District’s Council which features legislative and controlling functions. It consists of 21 members who serve 4 year terms. For a complete listing of all Council members, please click here.
The District’s Board is an executive organ. With the Starost as its chairman it also consists of Vice-Starost and three Board Members.
The office of Starost is held by Mr. Mirosław Graczyk and that of Vice-Starost by Mr. Darusz Meller.

The District’s administrative units are:

3. Psychological and Psychological Guidance Service
4. Secondary School Complex in Chełmża
5. Special School Complex in Chełmża
6. Agricultural School Complex in Gronowo
7. Music School in Chełmża
8. 4 Welfare Centers – in Browina, Pigża, Wielka Nieszawka and Dobrzejewice
9. Healthcare Complex in Chełmża
10. Welfare and Educational Institution in Głuchowo
11. Employment Department
All the administrative functions are fulfilled by the District’s main administrative office – the Starosty (Starostwo).
